Finally, I have a working computer and we made it to Mexico!
My computer broke the first week I got here and I so wanted to share the week we had of delicious eats and shopping extravaganzas, I just will have to do it all over again, oh poor me! We are currently living in San Miguel de Allende, rated the best place to retire two years ago in the Travel Magazine and known to be one the best cities in Mexico. It is the Hampton's of Mexico and rich with arts, culture, food, and diversity. It is located a few hours North of Mexico City in the state of Guanajuato.
There is something for everyone here and classes abound to get yourself into. From Botanical gardens to explore, taking an art class, or just finding yourself being pampered with all forms of healing both natural medicine and massages. Feel like Tai Chi in the park or a cyclist tournament?Every weekend has a different festival from gourmet food festivals to jazz or the Guanajuato Film Festival. So many amazing and magical experiences I am sure the three months we will be here we will have much to share with you.
Today I had my first Spanish lesson at my favorite coffeeshop La Mancha, which means the stain in Spanish. It was great learning even though a bit overwhelming. Everyone is so genuinely sweet while I brutalize their romantic language fumbling through infinitives and verb conjugations. It has always been a dream for me to be bilingual and what better way to learn than through immersion. I have always been the believer of sink or swim method as a great style of learning, although many foreigners live here and it is more than easy to speak only English and be fine. Personally, I believe though it is admirable to try and speak the language of the country you are choosing to settle in, even if temporary.
So here we are, we have been here for one month, of which two weeks we were sick... we learned the hard way that people take worm pills called Bensolmin Complex. These make sure your touristic stomach can handle the new climate and foods. Yes, it is Mexico, not America or wherever you are from, and your body knows when it has shifted environments.
