Being bold and going for it...

Most of the time, as artists we are no good at talking about ourself or going out there and representing our craft. Honestly, I have learned, and it was surprisingly not from my seven years of art school, that about fifty percent of my artistic life is selling myself. And to be even more honest, the other fifty is not making the art either! It sounds so bad too when said out loud, or even written out loud, like we are sell-outs for self marketing and being in the business of arts. But, in truth, we have to remember our art is our product and we are the sales representative of that artwork. Without us, our craft is not created or seen.

Found a little Frida at a cute shop that sold high end textiles from around Mexico. Pretty adorbs!

Being okay with being told no and more often even told absolutely nothing is part of the world of an emerging artist. Just remember, if you believe in your art and you keep doing it eventually someone else will believe in it too. You will also excel in whatever you do if you continue practicing. Be grateful for the process. I have been named Artist of the Year and not sold a piece from the series that got me that name, so the world can surprise you in very precarious ways. The not giving up part of being an artist is what makes you a good one.

Some of the Street Art of San Miguel. Every Year the artists paint and change the walls.

I came to San Miguel in the hopes to get my art out there in a new and unique way. San Miguel is known for their love of the arts and there are in fact 150 galleries here in this quaint town. On the upside as well the price of living is way lower but the price of art remains expensive. I am under the feelings that I am a good enough artist that at least one of these galleries if not more will show my artwork. It's really just playing with the odds because art is truly a matter of opinion and how highly you can be talked about or talk about yourself. If someone thinks you are worth it, well then you are! So don't be afraid to play the game, because in the end it is about intention.

If you think you are worth it, if you feel you deserve to make money off of what you love to do, and if you feel your art serves a purpose in the world, then you are following the path of the universe. This goes for all professions, not just the artist. The confidence to act as though you already have your art in a million galleries and you don't "need" the money is what will get you in the door. Believe it first. Then it will become.

Blessings and Gratitude.
