How Play helps Productivity
I know I say it a lot, but PLAY IS IMPORTANT. So, I make it a priority to play regularly. Yesterday, I went to the toy museum and allowed myself to dwell in inner feelings of wonder, excitement, and fluffiness of course ;) I notice when I put too much pressure on myself, it is time for silly and fluffy Brook to come out and be rewarded. If I am taking things too seriously, my work begins to drag and everything is procrastinated and half-assed. Relate to this at all?!
As an adult, we are denied many outlets that as children we take for granted. Playtime is so important to continue into adulthood. I always wished for adult playgrounds to be put in cities with giant trampolines, zip lines, swings, and slides. While I wait for this world I go to toy museums and eat ice cream.

If only our teachers spoke to us as children before we went to recess, "Now remember kids, play is important, so have fun out there and make it count!"
It seems so simple yet the older we get the more we deny ourselves these activities in life that essentially help fight the "burnout" stage of any career. If we deny the fun, we are denying the excitement of why we got into our profession in the first place. We do what we do because it brings us joy. However, if we don't find the joy in what we do we may be working too hard on the result and not the day to day fun. Stop focusing on the money, honey and start having fun again.
People can tell when you don't have the passion anymore. Most obvious when you go to a restaurant and taste the food of a passionless chef, a dull collection of flavors without artistry. You won't feel successful if you are not having any fun at all. Fun is where the passion is, so go have some fun. If you find it is easier said than done and life just feels like work, perhaps start with a good read. Bradford Keeney explains playfully a guide to building your mojo, The Flying Drum. Here, the author and psychologist describes the many versions/tools of play and fun and creates mojo building exercises in every chapter. So go get that groove back and shake it up!
